Ucreate – what is available to look at

Uncategorized — JP @ November 4, 2009

When I installed the manager it created a UCreateMusic directory in my Documents directory in OSX.

This contains these sub directories:
ucreate directory structure

Config contains settings.xml this snippet of xml:

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?> <Setting> <Version>3</Version> <DomainSite>http://music.myucreate.com</DomainSite> <Startup>YES</Startup> <HideOver>NO</HideOver> </Setting>

Filter contains .ufx files, the Loop directory contains .lop and .sng files and logs contains a rather interesting log file in txt format.

The log contains stuff like this…

If there is anything else that someone needs to see that I can provide let me know, not sure if there are usb device sniffers or the like that might help.

I do still hold out for a warm welcome from Radica/Mattel and then all of this probably will be irrelevant.

Made By Robot – Binary (Album Release)

Uncategorized — JP @ March 12, 2009

Yesterday was the release of the first Made By Robot album Binary, it’s available for free download or name your price audiophile download from my bandcamp page or on soundcloud.  The tunes were created using a monome using a couple of custom max patches controlling Ableton, here is a preview….

Just one row to go

Uncategorized — JP @ October 11, 2008

Only one row to go

The other row, see previous post with 2 rows out. I had the 4 cable pairs reversed. I don’t have the same issue with this row. This row I’m getting nothing at all, just blank. No cross talk, no button press issues, just dead.

I’m trying to meter things, but I’m having a hard time working out what should show Ohm values when and if that’s a good or a bad thing.

Everythings ready to start

Build Process, Uncategorized — JP @ September 15, 2008

Had a long weekend off over the weekend, so didn’t get much work done on the Nome, spent a lot of quality time at the beach or in restaurants.

I did get a chance to do some soldering warm up, whilst picking up a new soldering iron, I grabbed a couple of quick $10 velleman kits. I put together a metronome, which was a nice challenge due to the header for the chip, so hopefully that will have got some of the muscle memory back.

Metronome

I now have all the parts I think I need, I’ll compile a static page to list them all over the next few evenings.

I’m planning on spending an hour or so every evening this week, working on LED’s and diodes. So aiming for next weekend having a finished unenclosed arduinome.

In true geeky fashion I’ve been thinking I might record timelapses of the process using gawker. But more on that later.

Entartetemuzak’s Arduinome

Uncategorized — JP @ September 9, 2008

Some great progress pictures from Entartetmuszak’s Arduinome build.

This is looking great and the pictures are an awesome reference – many many thanks for sharing.

I’m pulling for him fixing the bugs and getting it all working. Great to see someone who’s 10 days ahead of where I’d like to be.

More parts ordered

Uncategorized — JP @ September 8, 2008

OK, so I was missing diodes, so I’m ordering these from sparkfun, based on info over at Julien Bayle’s site.

I’m also now thinking that based on my LED’s “Current – Test: 20mA” and “Voltage Rating 3.2V”.

So the way I’m reading it. I should be getting a 24.5k? – 28k? resistor.

I’ll probably pick a handful up from the local Radio shack – I’m assuming that resistors are fairly common and it’ll be easier to get them there rather than ordering online.

iPhone and DS Midi

Uncategorized — JP @ September 3, 2008

Just saw an interesting post over at synthtopia.com about the ITM midi-lab free iphone download app. Going to check that out tonight when I get home.

The other thing I’m adding to my wish list is the Korg DS-10 synthesizer. Apparently due out Oct 14th (according to Amazon). There is a ds10 blog, although it’s all in Japanese (although that can always be translated).

At last I might have a very good reason for owning a DS.

Arduinome Parts List

(this is not a definitive list, I have more things I need, that I will post about. Once I have confirmed I have everything I need, I will post a sticky page with the full list and where I got them from.)

I set about finding the parts I would need for my DIY arduinome monome clone port.

Heavily led by the excellent post over at bricktable.

As mentioned in the comments from the above post.

Digikey does not have the ED90053-ND in stock currently. However there is a RoHS non-compliant version in stock.

digikey # ED3124-ND

Both are IC SOCKET 24PIN MS TIN/TIN .300

I also went for this alternative.

** update, I have no idea why I ordered 5,000 tape mounted resistors. I know I need at least 1, and I think I’m missing diodes, but I need to try and find which ones I need. Be aware if you brought what’s on my list, you can return the resistors so long as you don’t open them and fiddle around with them, just like I did :)

* note, thanks to wilcox for pointing out that the max led display driver can be got for free as a sample from the manufacturer.

Sparkfun

Quantity Description Unit Price Total
2 Arduino USB Board $34.95 $69.90
8 Button Pad 4×4 – Breakout PCB $9.95 $79.60
8 Button Pad 4×4 – LED Compatible $9.95 $79.60

4pcb

You need to ask for order number #4pcb_Owen.

For 4 boards + 1 free one there is a deal of $33 each on a 5 day turn plus shipping and handling.
So the total cost would be $132 + shipping and handling ($15 if you go Ground).

I’ve been told, that the best person to speak to is Ryan. Ryan Schlecht – Sales Associate, Advanced Circuits. 800-979-4722 ext. 1304, ryan@4pcb.com He was able to redirect me to my local sales assisant.

As far as I can tell that’s my complete shopping list for the hardware (not including the USB cable – which I have hundreds of spares and the enclosure.)

I have ordered double quantities of everything for two reasons, I’m paranoid and an assuming that something will go tragically wrong with the first attempt, if everything works I’d love to have a spare to give as a gift or have at work.
